(GTEC) has issued a strong public warning after releasing a list of 62 tertiary institutions operating in Ghana that are not recognised.

GTEC Releases List of 62 Unrecognised Institutions, Warns Against Fake Certificates

The announcement is part of efforts to curb the rising issue of fake academic certificates and unaccredited schools in the country.

According to GTEC, these institutions have not met the required quality assurance and accreditation standards, meaning any certificates issued by them may not be valid for employment, further studies, or professional progression.

GTEC’s Warning to the Public

GTEC cautioned students, parents, and employers to be extremely careful when selecting tertiary institutions.

The Commission stressed that:

  • The listed institutions are not recognised by GTEC

  • Their certificates may be invalid for official use

  • Students risk financial loss and academic setbacks

  • Employers should verify qualifications before hiring

The Commission also advised the public to always confirm accreditation status before enrolling in any institution.

Risks of Enrolling in Unrecognised Institutions

Experts and education regulators warn that studying in unapproved institutions can lead to:

  • Wasted time and money

  • Invalid certificates

  • Difficulty securing jobs

  • Rejection during professional licensing or further education

  • Long-term career disadvantages

GTEC has repeatedly emphasized that even if an institution appears legitimate, only official accreditation confirms its validity.

What Students Should Do

GTEC advises prospective students to:

  • Verify institutions through official GTEC channels

  • Avoid “too-good-to-be-true” degree programmes

  • Check accreditation before paying fees or enrolling

  • Be cautious of foreign-affiliated institutions operating locally without approval
