The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has issued an earnest appeal to the public, asking Ghanaians to bear with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as it rolls out an extensive nationwide infrastructure upgrade.
Acknowledging that the massive intervention will inevitably cause short-term inconveniences—most notably, intermittent and planned power outages—Dr. Jinapor emphasized that these disruptions are a necessary step toward securing Ghana's long-term energy future.
Tackling Obsolete Infrastructure
Following a comprehensive review of the national electricity distribution system, it was revealed that years of underinvestment had left the grid burdened with overloaded and outdated equipment, with some transformers having been in continuous use for over 22 years.
To combat this, the ongoing initiative features a sweeping overhaul of critical hardware.
