Roger Craig Named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026

In a momentous celebration during the 2026 NFL Honors, former NFL star Roger Craig has officially been named a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 — a well-earned honor recognizing one of the most versatile and impactful players in league history.

A Career That Redefined the Running Back Position

Roger Craig’s NFL legacy is defined by exceptional versatility and historic performance.

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft out of the University of Nebraska, Craig quickly established himself as one of the league’s most dynamic backs under coach Bill Walsh’s innovative West Coast offense.

Craig spent the majority of his 11-year career with the 49ers (1983–1990), before brief stops with the Los Angeles Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings. His NFL résumé includes:

  • Three Super Bowl championships with the 49ers (XIX, XXIII, XXIV) during the team’s 1980s dynasty.

  • Historic dual-threat production, including becoming the first player in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season (1985) — a feat now held by only a select few.

  • NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1988, when he led the league with an impressive 2,036 yards from scrimmage

  • Four Pro Bowl selections and inclusion on the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1980s

  • Career totals including over 8,000 rushing yards, more than 4,900 receiving yards, and 73 total touchdowns

Long-Awaited Recognition and Enshrinement

Craig’s Hall of Fame induction represents the culmination of decades of admiration from fans, teammates, and fellow players who saw him push the boundaries of what a running back could be.
