DeMarco Murray leaving Oklahoma to coach in NFL

Oklahoma Running Backs Coach DeMarco Murray Heading to the NFL

The Oklahoma Sooners will be parting ways with a key member of their coaching staff as former NFL standout DeMarco Murray prepares to return to the professional ranks.

Murray, who has served as the Sooners’ running backs coach, confirmed he will be leaving the program to take a coaching role in the NFL for the upcoming season.

Murray’s impact on Oklahoma has been significant.

Since joining the staff, he has helped develop a stable of talented running backs, combining his own professional experience with a focus on technique, vision, and football IQ.

Under his guidance, several Sooners have improved their draft stock and on-field performance, making the running back position a highlight of the team’s offense.

“Coaching at Oklahoma has been an incredible experience,” Murray said.

“Working with these young men and helping them grow as players and people has been a privilege.

I’m excited for this next chapter, but I’ll always cherish my time with the Sooners.”

While details of Murray’s NFL destination have not been officially announced, insiders suggest he is expected to join a team looking to strengthen its running game and mentor a new generation of professional backs.

His transition from college to pro coaching mirrors his own journey as a player, where he enjoyed a decorated NFL career, including a league MVP season.

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables expressed gratitude for Murray’s contributions: “DeMarco has been outstanding for our players and program.

We’re proud of him and know he’ll make a positive impact in the NFL just as he has here.”

As the Sooners prepare for the upcoming season, they now face the task of filling the void left by Murray’s departure.

Still, his legacy in Norman—both on the field and in the locker room—will be felt for years to come.
