Eagles hire Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator for 2026

Eagles Hire Sean Mannion as Offensive Coordinator to Revamp Struggling Offense

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially named Sean Mannion their new offensive coordinator, marking one of the most talked-about coaching changes of the NFL offseason.

Head coach Nick Sirianni and the Eagles’ front office concluded a thorough search before announcing the hire on January 29, 2026, bringing in Mannion — most recently the Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach — to lead Philadelphia’s offensive unit in the 2026 season.

A Young, Rising Coach

At just 33 years old, Sean Mannion will step into one of the NFL’s most demanding coordinator jobs.

A former NFL quarterback himself, Mannion spent nine seasons as a player, including stints with the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks, before transitioning to coaching.

Mannion began his coaching career in 2024 with the Packers as an offensive assistant and was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2025, where he worked closely with Jordan Love and backup Malik Willis

Under his guidance, Love had one of his more efficient seasons, and Willis performed admirably in relief appearances.

Replacing Kevin Patullo

Mannion takes over for Kevin Patullo, who was relieved of coordinator duties after just one season following a disappointing offensive campaign for the Eagles in 2025.

Philadelphia’s offense declined from a top-tier unit to ranking outside the top 20 in key categories like total offense and scoring, contributing to an early playoff exit in the wild-card round.

The Eagles had one of the league’s most unstable offensive coordinator situations in recent years, with Mannion becoming the fifth different play-caller in six seasons under Sirianni.

What Mannion Brings

Although his coaching résumé is still short, Mannion is widely regarded as a bright, analytic mind with experience under several respected offensive thinkers throughout the league.

Philadelphia’s official announcement highlighted his “systematic views on offensive football and strategic approach,” as well as the breadth of quarterbacks and coaching styles he’s absorbed over his NFL journey.

Sirianni praised Mannion’s football intellect and potential, emphasizing the importance of patience and thoroughness in finding the right offensive leader.

Challenges Ahead

Mannion inherits a unit in need of reinvigoration.

The Eagles’ offense fell to 24th in total yards and 19th in scoring during the 2025 season, despite boasting star talents like QB Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and running back Saquon Barkley

Critics note that Mannion has not yet called plays in his coaching career — a factor that could influence how much control he has over the offense or whether Sirianni retains some play-calling duties.

Looking Forward

Still, the Eagles clearly believe in Mannion’s upside and potential to evolve as a coordinator.

His rapid climb from NFL backup quarterback to coordinator in just a couple of years speaks to his rising reputation around the league.

For Philadelphia, the hire represents both a fresh start offensively and a calculated gamble on youthful innovation over traditional experience.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Mannion prepares to implement his vision for the Eagles’ offense ahead of the 2026 season.
